US-based IT services company Cognizant Technology Solutions has instructed employees to work from home on May 20, following two days of heavy rainfall in Bengaluru, sources told Moneycontrol.
Headquartered in Teaneck, New Jersey, the firm has around 40,000 employees in India’s IT hub.
A night of continuous rainfall from Sunday into early Monday submerged vast areas of Bengaluru’s tech corridors, severely disrupting daily commutes and plunging life into disarray across key IT hubs.
With no official work-from-home guidance from most companies, hundreds of tech professionals were left in a lurch.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka government, Bengaluru received approximately 240 mm of rain over two days. On Sunday, May 18 alone, the city recorded 104 mm, causing significant flooding in several residential neighborhoods.
